FDA Warns Against Botox & Myobloc
The FDA has warned against the use of Botulinum-Toxin, after the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen petitioned them to strengthen warnings to users of Botox (Botulinum-Toxin Type A) and Myobloc (Botulinum-Toxin Type B).
Botulinum-Toxin is used to relieve various muscle spasms. The toxin simply paralyses the muscle or nerve with the spasm and the spasm goes away. Botox is best known for minimizing wrinkles and fine lines by injecting the Botulinum-Toxin directly into the wrinkle. This potentially harmful substance then paralyzes the muscles around the wrinkles causing them to relax.
The use of Botulinum-Toxin has been linked to dangerous botulism symptoms and some children have even died after being treated for muscle spasms. In some cases, the toxin injection spread to other parts of the body, paralyzing and weakening muscles used for breathing and swallowing. According to the FDA, this is a potentially deadly side effect.
The FDA says that if you receive Botox or Myobloc injections for any reason, medical or cosmetic, you should seek medical attention if you suffer any botulism symptoms, including: difficulty swallowing or breathing, slurred speech, muscle weakness, or difficulty holding up your head.
At this point the FDA is not telling healthcare professionals to stop prescribing Botulinum-Toxin. The FDA is reviewing safety data from clinical studies submitted by the drug manufacturers and will inform the public of its conclusions.
Now, does this sound like something you want injected into your body? Needles are bad enough, but injecting something into your skin that is potentially deadly is just plain stupid.
You ask, how do I get rid of these wrinkles then? That's a great question! There are literally hundreds of anti-wrinkle creams and serums on the market and very few of them do anything more than moisturize your face. How do you tell which anti-wrinkle creams work? One way is to check out our reviews for some of the top anti-aging products on the market. Another is to do the research for yourself.
In order to effectively research anti-wrinkle products, you need to FULLY understand how to read the ingredients. Some ingredients are labeled with a brand name like Matrixyl 3000 and others may be the same thing, but with a generic name that only means something to a chemist. In other cases two ingredients may be used for the same thing and you need to know exactly what each ingredient does and how well it works.
We've made it easy for you and published our research for you on this site. Many products reviewed on this site actually work well, but there were two products that really stood out, LifeCell and Revitol. These two products that really impressed us with their ingredients and customer reviews.
At $187 LifeCell is a little pricey when compared to the competition, but not expensive at all when compared to Botox. What makes LifeCell so great is that it's all in one bottle. It also treats many other aging problems like age spots and lip wrinkles.
Revitol simply spanks the competition with it's impressive list of ingredients and low price of $59.95. The only downside to Revitol is that there is 3 bottles of stuff to apply. But for this great low price, this is a wonderful deal for a combo that truly works.
No matter how you look at it, the anti-wrinkle creams and serums are much safer than Botox injections and the results are pretty much the same. To see the more reviews of antiwrinkle creams, click here.
